SB hires new UK consumer health chief

SmithKline Beecham has appointed a new general manager and vice-president of consumer healthcare in the UK.

He is Simon Pulsford, who held the same position at the company’s northern Europe division. He will oversee marketing operations as part of his role, which covers over-the-counter and oral care brands such as Oxy, Aquafresh and Macleans.

The marketing directors of otc and oral care, Helen Evans and Rebecca Harvey respectively, will report to Pulsford, as will advertising director for UK consumer healthcare John Blakemore.

John Clarke will remain in his position as general manager and vice-president of nutritional healthcare, the other half of the company, which owns brands such as Ribena, Lucozade and Horlicks.

Pulsford takes the place of Russ Moran, who has returned to Smith Kline Beecham in the US to become more involved in special projects.

Pulsford has been with the company since 1979, and has held a number of marketing and general manager positions in the UK, Tokyo and across Europe. He also co-ordinated the integration of the Sterling business in Europe in 1994 as general manager and vice-president of European business development.
