Spillers Petfoods’ catfood Felix has signed its first TV sponsorship deal. The brand will sponsor a six-week series of Cat Crazy on ITV and the programme will feature an 0891 number for viewers to receive a Felix Cat Crazy book.

Greg Rusedski, Britain’s number two tennis player, has signed a two-year sponsorship deal with clothing retailer Austin Reed. The deal was brokered by ProServe, the agency that represents Rusedski.

Sony PlayStation has signed a 1m perimeter signage and sponsorship deal over three years with the Premier League. It will give the company a presence in every Premier League football ground in the country.

BT business communications advertising manager Chris Carpenter has quit. Carpenter, who was involved in co-ordinating BT’s business advertising, is understood to be moving to Cable & Wireless Caribbean as marketing director.

Sports fans were able to see virtual advertising (below) for the first time in the UK last Saturday when drinks company Allied Domecq ran a test broadcast with British Sky Broadcasting. Ads for Laphroaig, Teacher’s, Harvey’s Bristol Cream and Cockburn’s port were shown on Sky’s live coverage of the England v Australia rugby match in Sydney. Using technology originally used to guide cruise missiles, the virtual ads were inserted into the live TV pictures.

Audi is launching the Audi Foundation, a not-for profit organisation, to encourage and support young designers.

Olympia Exhibition Centre will become Britain’s biggest sex shop after being awarded a licence to hold the country’s first official exhibition of erotica, in November. The organisers claim the exhibition is designed to cater for those ‘who share a healthy and imaginative interest in the erotic’ and promise it will be ‘part of a unique social experience that the public wants and richly deserves’.

NBC Europe has appointed Margaret McNally as director of sales. McNally was formally vice president of sales at the Washington-based WRC-TV. She replaces Alan Bryson who does not have a post to go to.

Pilsner Urquell, the Czech lager, is being relaunched by new distributor Serenus International, which takes over from Guinness, with ads through Warman & Bannister.

Danone-owned HP has launched five complete baked bean meals in a can.

Pedigree Petfoods has mailed 250,000 cat owners with its first Whiskas customer magazine.
