Do you really wannabe in court?

The Diary, ever alert, can reveal a new game – “Spice Girl baiting”. It involves the thrill of risking legal action by using an unofficial reference to this increasingly tedious fivesome.

The Diary, ever alert, can reveal a new game – “Spice Girl baiting”.

It involves the thrill of risking legal action by using an unofficial reference to this increasingly tedious fivesome. First it was sticker company Panini, which produced a “Fab Five” sticker album, then it was Red Mill Snack Foods, which produced a “Spice Curl” crisp.

Now we can report yet another advertiser has sailed a bit close to the wind and has been doing some frantic backtracking to escape the wrath of the famous fivesome.

Vitabiotics, which makes Premence, a one-a-day vitamin supplement for women, has put up lots of posters in buses and tubes with the headline “Real Girl Power” and a phrase from the girls’ first number one hit “Wannabe”. The original ads read: “Premence – effective, affordable, and at less than 17p a day, it’s what you really, really want.”

But it has since changed the wording to: “Premence – effective, affordable, and at less than 17p a day, it’s what you’re really, really looking for.”

The Diary finds this a pleasant change from the usual sort of “baiting” these scantily-clad songstresses inspire in their adolescent male fans.
