EMAP Internet Sales is to handle ad sales for the British version of search service Lycos (www-uk.lycos.com). The Lycos service is one of a number of European Websites being developed as part of a joint venture between Lycos and German-owned Bertelsmann group.

Yahoo! Inc has reported its third quarter of profitability, with traffic on its navigational site up 26 per cent to 38 million page views a day in June, compared with 30 million in March. Revenue was up to $13.5m (8.4m), compared with the $3.3m (2m) reported in the same quarter last year. Shares jumped nearly ten per cent on news of results.

Music Network, part of the Webmedia group, has launched an industry-wide Internet Audio Policy Group, to develop guidelines and procedures that Web houses should follow when designing sites with audio. Royalty bodies MCPS and PRS, record companies EMI and Telstar, and retailer Tower Records, are supporting the formation of the group.

Capital Radio is launching an online paid-for competition, Fantasy Record Label, on its Capital FM Website in August, in a joint promotion with EMI Records. Participants will pay 10 per play, and are given a notional 10m to sign up top bands whose success will be tracked according to chart position, press coverage “and drug busts”, according to Capital (www.CapitalFM.co.uk).
