Essential Media lands 2m Scottish Newspapers task

Scottish Media Newspapers has appointed Essential Media to handle its 2m media buying account for its titles The Herald and The Evening Times.

Workforce Media and Claxton were also understood to be vying for the business, which covers the recruitment advertising for both titles.

Scottish Media Newspapers commercial director Christine Costello says: “We appointed Essential Media because of its impressive recruitment experience. I am confident it will ensure that The Herald and the Evening Times take their rightful place in media planners schedules.”

The Herald, formerly known as The Glasgow Herald, is a daily quality broadsheet which currently has a circulation of 107,527. The Evening Times, a daily tabloid, has a circulation of 129,762.

Penny Lee, a director of London-based Essential Media, says: “We are determined that the Herald is not overlooked by media planners in favour of the national quality press, whose combined readership in Scotland is less than that of The Herald.”

Essential Media was set up earlier this year by Lee and Karen O’Sullivan, who are both former directors of regional sales house Amra.
