The Somerfield supermarket chain’s Website went live last week, offering a range of consumer and corporate information for customers and potential staff recruits. The site (www.somerfield.co.uk) features a range of recipes, promotions, company news and job opportunities. According to Ken Bostock, IT manager at Somerfield Stores, the site is designed to ‘offer something to everyone’. It does not, for the time being, offer any home shopping facilities, despite the Web-based online shopping trials being operated by rivals Tesco and Sainsbury’s (MW May 8). But Somerfield has launched a work-based online shopping trial with IBM staff in Hampshire. Design on the site has been handled by Information Hyperlink, which will also monitor traffic to the various elements of the site. According to Bostock: ‘Future development of the site will be tailored based upon analysis and feedback from our customers.’
