Gateway chief departs to set up own outfit

Mike Jarvis, new business director of computer company Gateway 2000, has resigned from the company to start up his own media buying consultancy.

Jarvis launches the new consultancy at the end of August and will be based in the offices of media agency Fairbrother White, who he will be working for on an ad hoc basis.

His position at Gateway 2000 will not be filled.

He joined Gateway 2000 in July 1995 as worldwide media director and moved the company’s 10m pan-European media account from Carat to Optimedia.

Last year, Jarvis was promoted to European marketing director and he became business development director in July when Mike Maloney took over his job. As such, he became responsible for promoting new business in the Middle East, setting up Internet projects, and overseeing the opening of new showrooms across Europe.

Maloney’s position covers the continent, while UK and Ireland country manager John Shepheard is the company’s top marketer in Britain.
