Top Rank appoints director of marketing

Top Rank, the UK’s biggest bingo operator, has appointed regional executive Tony Gibbons as dir ector of marketing following the departure of Nick Lighton last month.

Lighton announced he was leaving the company in July to join Thomson Holidays, where he will be general manager for the cruise division (MW July 31).

Gibbons joins the company as it prepares for the launch of its first national television advertising campaign after the relaxation of Government guidelines on bingo advertising.

As a result, Lighton appointed agencies WCRS and CIA Medianetwork to its 4m account, and a new campaign is expected to break this summer.

Top Rank managing director Barry Pickersgill says: “Gibbons’ operational experience within the company over the past 14 years will prove valuable as we drive the business forward in this new era of relaxed regulations.”

The operator, which is axing the Top Rank name from its 127 bingo halls in favour of the Mecca brand, appointed Lighton in June 1995.
