Mirror draws up plans for Saturday review supplement

The Mirror is looking at launching a review supplement for its Saturday edition.

The move would make the title the only tabloid to have a review section on a Saturday. News International’s Sun on a Saturday has a pull-out TV guide but no magazine or review-type supplement.

Mirror deputy advertising director David Pearmain refuses to confirm or deny that the paper has put together a dummy edition of the review. However, industry sources say the paper has briefed them for a late October launch and The Mirror is understood to have created a dummy edition.

One media buyer says: “If it is done well, I think it will be a success. Advertisers tend to prefer reviews to magazines because there is less advertising space and so their ad stands out more.”

Last September, the Mirror launched a football magazine called Football Mania Plus!, which is free with the Wednesday edition.

Meanwhile, News International has denied speculation that The Sunday Times magazine will be re-launched as a non-glossy supplement.
