British Airways has angered Executive Club members by sending out a magazine carrying a promotion to win a Mercedes and a safety driving course with the German car maker.
The promotion arrived at Club members addresses last Friday, the day before the funeral of Diana, Princess of Wales, who was killed in a Mercedes driven by a man who had attended such a course.
In the week which saw hundreds of advertisers pulling ads which had the slightest chance of causing offence following the death of the Princess this will cause great embarrassment to the airline.
The offer, carried in the airline’s Free and Easy magazine, was a joint promotion between BA and Hertz. BA says the promotion has now been withdrawn.
