IFAW picks EURO RSCG for hunt task

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) has appointed EURO RSCG Wnek Gosper to work on an ad campaign aimed at politicians.

The agency has been appointed on a through-the-line basis, with a brief to create advertising to support the Wild Mammals (Hunting With Dogs) Bill, due to go through Parliament on November 28.

However, IFAW, whose account was previously held by GGT, may join forces with the RSPCA and the League Against Cruel Sports (LACS) or a collective advertising campaign.

No decision has been made on which of the three organisations’ agencies will work on co-operative advertising, and any proposed campaign could be put out for pitch. The RSPCA works with Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO and LACS has worked with Issue Communications.

The Private Member’s Bill is designed to make it an offence to allow a dog to pursue, injure, attack or kill any wild mammal. The charity and two campaigners are working together to lobby the Government and raise awareness through a travelling exhibition. Direct mail and fundraising is being handled by each organisation separately.

IFAW has caused outrage in the past over its controversial ads. One ad, through Bartle Bogle Hegarty, featured a seal’s severed penis to publicise its use as an aphrodisiac.

The charity is taking the ASA to court over its decision to ban an ad through Wood Burden Smith & Bergin, which slates Tesco for selling Canadian salmon. The ad shows a seal being clubbed to death by a Canadian fisherman.
