Times supplement arm hands account to MGM

The Times Supplements has ap-pointed Manning Gottlieb Media (MGM) as its media agency to handle its range of specialist titles, including the Times Literary Supplement (TLS), Times Education Supplement (TES), and the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES).

The move puts MGM onto the News International roster. NI’s newspaper titles, The Sun, News of the World, The Times and Sunday Times, are handled by TMD Carat. MGM, which had pooled its media buying with TMD, was recently taken over by Omnicom. The deal meant that MGM’s 80m media billings were pulled out of TMD. MGM is now the media partner agency of Omnicom agency network TBWA.

The McWilliams Partnership has won the creative work on the same accounts.

The McWilliams Partnership won the business late last week after a pitch against two other agencies, believed to be incumbent Barraclough Hall Woolston Gray and Ammirati Puris Lintas.

The account is understood to be worth 1m and will focus on a press and poster campaign.

Chairman of the agency John McWilliams says: “The TLS is the only genuine forum of cultural debate in this country. We want to communicate that to a wider and younger audience.”

The Times Supplements also has plans to launch another education title early next year.

The first work from the new agency is scheduled for next month.
