Small-scale fishy lunch was raw deal

Sniffing out top stories is often painful, but this week the Diary happened upon a cunning money-making scheme on our doorstep that also looked likely to provide rich news pickings. Purveyor of raw fish to the stars Yo! Sushi, the conveyor-belt sushi bar yards from Marketing Week’s palatial offices, was offering freeloaders 5 to star in a new commercial for IT behemoth Microsoft.

Never one to miss out on cut-price scoff, nor the promise of experiencing marketing strategy from the inside, the Diary duly signed up and entered, a used fiver in hand.

But after consuming a few delicate dishes, the Diary recognised a huge flaw in this rags to riches bid – the fiver wasn’t going to last long; it was going to cost at least 30 to get a decent gut-busting meal.

At which point, marketing strategy sampled, your intrepid correspondent beat a hasty retreat to a local café for ham, egg, chips and beans (price 2.80).
