Bupa chief Tranter quits to pursue ‘own interests’

Bupa’s marketing director Bruce Tranter is leaving the UK’s leading private healthcare insurer to pursue his own interests.

His resignation comes only weeks after he was reported to have visited a number of advertising agencies on behalf of Bupa. The company has strongly denied that it is reviewing its account at Ogilvy & Mather.

Bupa is looking for a suitable candidate to fill his post, which will be temporarily covered by Peter Jones, the director of communications.

Tranter has been with the health insurer since 1993 and was responsible for all the UK marketing and the 8m advertising budget since 1995. He oversaw O&M’s famous “You’re amazing. We want you to stay that way” campaign.

Most recently, he was involved in a project to take Bupa onto the high street with a chain of women’s health centres.

Bupa leads the private healthcare market with a 45 per cent share. However, it is facing increasing pressure from PPP, which has a 27 per cent share, and growing competition from banks, insurance companies and building societies.
