Texaco links with Spar on the forecourt

Texaco is the latest petrol company to break into the food market by linking with Spar.

The move is part of Texaco’s attempt to increase share in the competitive petrol retailing market by adding more services.

The operation, which is being tested in Wales, will offer Texaco services and fuel and Spar goods on the same site.

It follows other collaborations between BP and Safeway, Elf and Somerfield, and Q8 and Budgens. Shell, meanwhile, is investing in its own-label Select stores.

Last year, Texaco began to ex-pand the number of petrol station sites that contain McDonald’s fast food restaurants and it recently struck a deal with the Nationwide Building Society to install cash machines on its forecourts.

Texaco is also rolling out a new service station design by 20/20 Design for the Millennium, which will incorporate groceries, Dunkin’ Donuts, a breakfast menu and Pizza Hut Express.
