Duracell chief moves over to Braun

Duracell’s director of marketing for Europe, Glyn Harper, is joining sister company Braun as marketing director for Europe.

Dwight Brown, marketing director for Braun UK, says Harper will not be based at the UK headquarters in Middlesex.

Both Braun, which produces household and healthcare products, and Duracell are owned by Gillette.

Harper, who oversees Duracell’s 19m pan-European advertising budget, is leaving the battery manufacturer only five months after his promotion to a European role (MW October 2).

The expansion of his role followed the company’s decision to centralise its European marketing (MW April 17).

Harper joined Duracell as UK marketing director two-and-a-half years ago from Scott Paper, where he was European category leader.

Harper’s exit coincides with Duracell’s recent announcement of its first multimillion pound pan-European marketing campaign. The push – estimated to be worth 15m – supports Duracell’s 2m sponsorship of the 1998 World Cup. Harper, who leaves at the end of this month, has not yet been replaced.
