Duran Duran unveils mens’ make-up line
Duran Duran, the group that ushered in the New Romantic era with an eclectic mix of pop music, frills and mascara, is launching a range of make-up for men.
The range will be branded Duran Duran and endorsed by the members of the all-male group, which is expected to release its latest album, Medazzaland, this month.
The group is hoping its range will sell on the back of a revival for the Eighties look, when real men were proud to be seen in ruffles and blusher.
Cult cosmetics company Hard Candy is working with the group on the launch. A spokeswoman for Duran Duran says the group has yet to finalise which make-up items will be sold in the range. However, the eyeliner favoured by guitarist Nick Rhodes is heavily tipped for launch.
Hard Candy already sells a range of dark-coloured nail varnishes aimed at the male market called Candyman (MW February 7), and the group is believed to be developing its own nail shades to put on the shelves.
“Duran Duran is still determining what products it will launch, but make-up for men will sell. The New Romantic look is back,” says the group’s spokeswoman.
