Lord Tebbit hasn’t got the white stuff

The Diary was pleased to see that the beleaguered World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association, which is having difficulty attracting sponsors, has found a new high-profile president.

Former deputy Conservative Party chairman Lord Archer will take over amid hopes that he will strengthen the game’s commercial position in political circles. The Diary is relieved the role was not offered to Archer’s former colleague Lord Tebbit. He recently warned against the spread of multi-culturalism, claiming it would “divide” society, and would probably have insisted the game be played with exclusively white balls.
