Kiss founder sets up youth media outfit

Gordon McNamee, the managing director of Kiss Enterprises, a division of EMAP Radio, is to leave the company at the end of November to head a new youth-oriented media company of his own.

McNamee, who founded Kiss FM in 1988, is setting up a company that will focus on youth TV and radio, masthead programming and youth consultancy.

McNamee says: “The explosion of satellite and digital technology means that there will be a demand for a lot more programming. I also wanted to work in a small company environment again.”

McNamee will set up the company with two other unnamed partners, by the end of the year.

Vince Monsey, managing director of EMAP’s cable music channel The Box, will take over McNamee’s responsibilities, which include overseeing Kiss events and concerts, as well as the Kiss TV cable channel.

Monsey will be charged with developing both Kiss TV and The Box as youth stations.

Mike Soutar took over as md of the radio station, Kiss 100, in May.
