McCann scotches grand triumph

How proud everyone at McCann-Erickson Scotland must be, for a campaign created by their very own tiny Edinburgh agency has been awarded the Grand Prix for the best work from any of its huge global network.

The Scots tiddler, which was up against blue whales such as McCann in London, New York and Tokyo, won a prize of more than 3,000 for its work on Scottish Courage’s Theakston Ales – plenty of dosh you might think to buy a few cases of bubbly. So why are the streets of Edinburgh not resounding to the popping of champagne corks?

Could it have something to do with the fact that not only is the beleaguered Scots shop in the throes of a merger (talks continue with The Leith Agency), but that it has now lost the winning account and ousted account director and former md Aubrey Malden?
