Transco rap is a lot of hot air

In the article “Government boosts fund for gas complaints” (MW October 9), you imply complaints which arise from the introduction of competition in the gas market of Scotland and the North-east from November 1 will be because “the database of names and addresses held by pipeline operator Transco is so full of inaccuracies”.

I would like to refute this statement totally. Transco has invested millions of pounds cleaning data which has been inherited from Britain’s old-style gas industry.

As we reach final preparations for November 1, we can state that our database for Scotland and the North-east is matched to over 95 per cent of official Post Office address files and 99.24 per cent to data held by British Gas Trading, from whom consumers may opt to switch.
