Continental has appointed Zenith to handle media buying across Europe for its tyre brands, which include Uniroyal and Semperit in addition to the core Continental brand.

Ingo Krauss will become part-time chairman of Saatchi & Saatchi’s Frankfurt agency from the beginning of next year. Krauss left his job as head of Young & Rubicam Germany in July, citing strategic differences with the agency’s management.

Jean-Marie Dru, one of the four founders of BDDP, has been named as chairman of next year’s Cannes Festival, to be held from June 22 to 27. Dru will oversee judging of both TV and print sections.

Autocontrol de Publicidad (AAP), Spain’s self-regulatory body, has passed a ruling preventing companies from indirectly advertising alcohol products of above 20 per cent proof on TV. The decision follows recent cases involving Larios and Bacardi.

CanalSatellite is to add a new interactive programme, Davantage!, to its French schedules. Viewers will be able to respond electronically to products they see on-screen and receive further information or special offers.

Mercedes Benz Italia is opening a number of outlets, called MB Spots, to support the launch of its A-Class model. Items sold in the stores – such as clothing and accessories – have been designed to complement the car’s image.

CIA Medianetwork has published a study in Spain which claims to show that TV advertising effectiveness, as measured by viewer recall, has fallen by over a quarter during the past year as a result of increased ad minutage.

Springer & Jacoby is to take over as lead creative agency on the Lufthansa account from the beginning of next year. Young & Rubicam will continue to handle the account internationally.
