IWS hires Peers to head 22m Woolmark drive

The International Wool Secretariat (IWS) has appointed Nicola Peers to oversee global marketing for the Woolmark.

Peers was the UK marketing director of Sopexa until she walked out over cuts in her budget three months ago (MW July 24).

She has now been appointed by the IWS as group manager for international marketing, following David Conners’ promotion to global director of operations.

She will oversee a marketing budget of 22m, which covers clothes labelling, point-of-sale material and above-the-line advertising. She will report directly to Conners. Peers, who will be based at IWS’s UK office in London, will also oversee media relations.

Peers was marketing director for Sopexa, the international consultancy body for the French food and wine industry, for six years before resigning. She has yet to be replaced.

The IWS, whose global brief is to increase wool consumption, recently traded in its James Bond-style television advertising for a fashion-led campaign through Abbott Mead Vickers.BBDO.

The press campaign, which features top models, including Annie Morton and Emma Balfour, is running in the fashion and lifestyle press.
