…as owner CLT boosts investment in the UK

CLT-UFA UK Radio has quashed speculation that it plans to quit British radio by promoting key staff and pledging to boost investment in its pop station, Atlantic 252.

Carol Fisher, managing director of CLT-UFA UK Radio Sales, has been promoted to strategic planning director, working across all its stations in the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.

In the UK, CLT-UFA owns two UK national stations – Talk Radio and Dublin-based Atlantic 252 – and a number of local commercial stations.

Fisher says: “My job will be to market the stations much more directly to the customer. Until recently we were focused on getting the way we serviced our advertisers and agencies right. But that will change.”

At the start of the year, CLT-UFA UK Radio announced it would conduct a review of its radio interests. Speculation grew that it was getting out of the medium, and EMAP Radio tried to buy Atlantic 252.

Fisher says the group is still committed to radio: “Atlantic is a young, vibrant station and we will invest in it. We will look to extend its brand in the way Kiss and Classic have. We are not looking at selling it.”

Talk Radio general manager Paul Robinson is to become the station’s managing director. The Talk Radio and Atlantic 252 sales teams, who had previously reported to Fisher, will now report respectively to Robinson and Travis Baxter, managing director of CLT-UFA UK.
