British American Tobacco confirmed yesterday that it will buy the Tyrrell Formula One racing team and set up its own team for 1999 as first revealed in Marketing Week (November 13).
Marshalls Communications Group is going into receivership. The eight firms for which it acts as a holding company – and had a 50 per cent stake in – will continue unchanged as separate businesses. Group chairman Michael Isaacson will step down. Marshall Advertising is seeking another partner.
Dixons has appointed Hilary Pepler as brand manager for PC World, and Peter Riordan as Currys operations director. Riordan will be involved in the planned expansion of Currys superstores from 244 to 274 in 12 months.

The New Millennium Experience Company has appointed ten design agencies to work on the exhibition areas within the Dome (right) around a central theme of ‘Time to Make a Difference’. The 30m contract is to be shared between Bentheim, Eva Jiriona Associates, HP:ICM, Jasper Jacob Associates, Land, Media Projects International, muf, Park Avenue Productions, Spectrum, and Work. Two other agencies may join the list, but they have yet to sign a contract.
Stephen Leadbeater will become managing director of Young’s, the 240m seafood and potato products division of United Biscuits. Leadbeater has been acting managing director since Wynne Griffiths switched to UB’s snack subsidiary, KP Foods, in May.
