Scots Gas seals 3m soccer deal

Scottish Gas has signed the first sponsorship deal for Scotland’s international football team, with a 3m package.

The deal, which was negotiated by API Consulting and the Scottish Football Association, means that Scottish Gas will sponsor the team and its home games for the next four years.

Scottish Gas director Margaret McKinlay says: “An important element of our sponsorship is the support we can give to developing the talents of young players. A substantial proportion of our investment will be devoted to a Scottish Gas community coaching initiative.”

SFA president Jack McGinn adds: “The Association has already made a commitment to devote ten per cent of all sponsorship income to its Youth Training Fund.”

The team’s next home game against Denmark in March will be the first Scottish Gas international match. Umbro sponsors the team’s kit and Mitre sponsors the footballs.

At 3m, this sponsorship deal is Scottish Gas’ largest. It has also sponsored the Scottish Junior Football team and the South East Edinburgh Initiative in conjunction with the Scottish Rugby Union.
