Rare chance to lift your profile

The Diary is always keen to help deserving causes. One particularly off-the-wall appeal crossed the Diary’s desk this week from DIY “Rocket Man” Steve Bennett.

Manchester-based Steve, who has built the most powerful amateur rocket, needs a corporate sponsor to dig into its pockets to raise about 2,000 and help him get his dream machine off the ground. The money is needed to pay for two lorries to transport the rocket – which has the potential to go 20 miles high – from Manchester to Otterburn, North-umberland, for its launch.

Steve says his unusual hobby achieved 2.5m worth of publicity for its previous sponsor Tate & Lyle.

“This is an unmissable opportunity for someone. We are really going to make headlines,” he says. Anyone keen to see their company name blast off into the stratosphere is urged to contact Steve at the University of Salford where he works.
