BBC Worldwide has closed its Clothes Show magazine eight years after launch.

At its peak, the teen fashion title had a circulation of 201,130 (Audit Bureau of Circulations figure January to June 1991). But it has been in decline since then.

In January to June this year, average circulation was just 150,494. The BBC is known to demand high circulations for its titles. In 1995, it shut BBC Holidays magazine, which had a circulation of just under 50,000.

A BBC spokeswoman says: “There was no single reason why it failed – both circulation and advertising revenue were down.”

Since the title launched in October 1990, the teenage girl magazine market has exploded and now includes B, Sugar, Minx and More!

Three years ago, Clothes Show was repositioned to target the slightly older 18 to 23-year-old market and last March it was published in perfect bound form for the first time.
