Millennium team seeks marketers

The New Millennium Experience Company is launching a major recruitment drive, and will seek to hire up to 30 marketers to work under commercial director Kevin Johnson.

The news comes as the NMEC, which will build the Millennium Dome, tries to play down the embarrassing departure of its creative director Stephen Bayley, who claims he quit over differences with the Minister responsible for the dome, Peter Mandelson. But the NMEC says it will probably axe the role of creative director and will not replace Bayley, as his work of hiring design agencies has been completed.

At the time Bayley was hired, NMEC chief executive Jennie Page said: “We are lucky to have Stephen working with us. There are very few people with the vision and understanding to be able to take forward the design of an exhibition of this scale.”

The new marketing posts include five senior positions, each with five or six supporting staff.

A head of travel has already been hired – Elizabeth Boyden, formerly head of travel trade and product marketing at the British Tourist Authority.

There will also be a sponsorship general manager, a licensing general manager, a sales promo tion manager and an advertising manager.
