Agencies to battle for Harry Goodman’s 2m cable brief

TV Travel Shop, a new cable travel channel backed by Flextech and Intersun Travel founder Harry Goodman, has drawn up a shortlist of advertising agencies for its 2m launch in April.

It is understood that Mellors Reay & Partners, Mustoe Merriman Herring Levy and Walsh Trott Chick Smith are presenting to the channel’s management this week.

TV Travel Shop will be launched by Marchbrand – a company founded by Goodman and his partner Denis Strauss. Flextech has an 87.5 per cent stake in Marchbrand.

TV Travel Shop will provide a travel agent service on TV giving details of hotels, resorts and cruises. Programmes will take viewers on tours of hotels so they can see exactly what they will get.

Viewers will book direct over the phone using credit cards – online technology will be added later.

Goodman built up the International Leisure Group – housing Intersun Travel and Air Europe – to be the UK’s second largest travel operator. It collapsed in 1991 after the Gulf War induced a slump in the airline industry.
