Ballantine’s, the whisky brand, has commissioned new media production company Cimex Media to produce a World Cup 98 CD-ROM which will be distributed as a free gift on selected bottles of the Allied-Domecq brand from March.

NetGravity, the ad management software company, has signed deals with BT and Reuters which will now feature the company’s AdServer system across their Websites.

Yahoo! UK & Ireland (right), Britain’s leading Website, has appointed Colin Simpson as associate producer. The site is actively looking for a third team member according to its producer Ralph Averbuch.

Hog’s Head, the Whitbread-owned pub chain, has launched an online promotion through Reuters Cityscreen, aimed at encouraging users of the system to enter the City Beer Challenge 1998. The charity fundraising event is being held in Hog’s Head venues across central London in March.

IBM is to start selling its PCs direct on the Web, following the lead set by Dell. The IBM rival claims to be selling $3m-worth of PCs a day through its Internet sales operation.

NewsNow, the London-based Internet start-up, has launched a ‘real time aggregate news headline service’, providing breaking news from more than 25 news sources. NewsNow (www.newsnow.co.uk) has struck supply deals with new sources including the Financial Times, BBC, and ITN. Similar sites operate successfully in the US.
