Scott quits top EMAP Elan role

Victoria Scott has left EMAP Elan after 16 months as commercial director and her role has been axed.

Scott spearheaded an initiative launched last year (MW December 4 1997) in which EMAP Elan replicated a media agency to strike cross-media deals with EMAP’s other radio and magazine interests.

Her boss, EMAP Elan’s managing director Sue Hawken, says the post of commercial director will not be immediately replaced, but she says it may be reinstated later.

Hawken says: “Having set up the new initiative, Scott’s job had become one of keeping it going, and we both came to the conclusion that it wasn’t what either of us wanted.”

EMAP Elan publishes women’s, teen and parenting titles, such as Red, Minx and Pregnancy & Birth.

The move coincides with men’s lifestyle and music division EMAP Metro’s appointment of Bean Andrews Norways Cramphorn (BANC) to handle Q Magazine’s 1m advertising account. EMAP has earmarked 4m for Q over the next three years.

The spend is part of EMAP Metro’s decision to increase its above-the-line spend on four titles – FHM, Q, Empire, and a new entertainment magazine codenamed Project J, scheduled to launch later this year.

Meanwhile, top-selling FHM next month becomes the first men’s lifestyle title to advertise on TV. The 3m multimedia push includes four 20-second TV commercials created by Bartle Bogle Hegarty.

They feature four FHM cover girls, including US MTV personality Jenny McCarthy and Australian actress Isla Fisher. The campaign revolves around an “FHM warning”, issued to men who lapse into sissy behaviour.
