Saga can’t keep up with clientele

I was interested to read Iain Murray’s piece in Marketing Week (April 30) commenting on the more active lifestyle which Saga appears to be promoting within its clientele. If only it were so.

I happen to be a 67-year-old, very active owner of a Ferrari and when canvassed recently regarding Saga motor insurance I asked for a quote. The response? – a deafening “no” as you will see from the attached letter from its customer service teamleader. Could you live with a job designation like that?

The letter is as follows:

Dear Mr Harris

Thank you for your application for Saga Motor Insurance.

I am sorry that we are unable to provide you with a quotation because our underwriters are unable to offer cover for your Ferrari as the ABI Group is too high.

Under the circumstances you may wish to consider renewing with your current insurer or, alternatively, obtaining a quotation elsewhere.

I regret that we were unable to help you at this time.
