Isn’t bunny ad supposed to be funny?

Sorry – have I missed something? The Duracell bunny flattened in an ad by an Audi Tdi is, I seem to remember, a pink, toy rabbit. That’s toy, as in “not real”, and pink, as in “not rabbit coloured”. Yet apparently, hordes of animal lovers are queuing up to lambast Bartle Bogle Hegarty and claim that the ad “trivialises the killing of wildlife”. The big guns of the ASA have even been called in, presumably to smack BBH’s hands and tell them they’re bad boys.

Perhaps the ASA might save a shedload of time, effort and money if it sent complainers away to look up the word “irony” in their dictionaries. Or has irony been banned while I wasn’t looking?
