LU rubs salt in to the wounds

Like may other poor unfortunates I have to endure the London Underground in order to get to work. Specifically, I have to endure the unsettling horrors of the Northern Line on a daily basis. I can handle the Camden Town weirdos who get on the tube and chant about a life without meaning; without hope; where love is an illusionary goal, fraught with disappointments and where dark forces beyond their comprehension seem to flank them down the long road to the grave. But what I can’t handle is when no explanation is given when trains stop for extended periods of time, no apology is given to passengers for delays in their journey and Underground staff who act like the Gestapo should anyone dare to make any discreet enquiries as to when they are likely to start moving again.

Unfortunately many people do not have any option but to take the tube to work, so Underground operators can basically ignore the need for customer service. I don’t think that for the 1.7 million daily tube travellers a little information or politeness is too much to ask when things go awry. I just wish that those charged with running the Underground would sample the delights of their own services for a short time. Maybe then they would realise how utterly infuriating the current situation is and do something about it.
