Court Burkitt scoops 5m railways double

Court Burkitt & Company has scooped the 4m GNER creative advertising account as well as the 1m South West Trains business.

Court Burkitt & Company has scooped the 4m GNER creative advertising account as well as the 1m South West Trains business.

The GNER win is for a project to produce a TV branding campaign, which is expected to air this autumn.

Court Burkitt’s appointment will not affect The Charles Walls Group’s status as GNER’s lead agency, which will be doing the media planning and buying for this campaign, in conjunction with MediaVest Manchester.

GNER is unwilling to comment on which other agencies pitched for the project, though it admits it spoke to “a very small number”.

A spokesman for GNER says Court Burkitt’s work for South West Trains does not present a conflict of interest. He adds: “It’s a different part of the country and a different type of operation. Court Burkitt’s knowledge of the industry will benefit us.”

Court Burkitt pitched against Banks Hoggins O’Shea and Griffin Bacall for the South West Trains account.

The brief is understood to be for a branding campaign highlighting the suggestion that South West Trains offers more services than people expect. It is thought to be the first time the company, which is run by Stagecoach, has hired an agency.

The wins will compensate for last month’s double blow, when Court Burkitt lost UDV’s Bailey’s and Malibu accounts, worth 3.5m.

The shift was part of the drinks giant’s global ad review, which also saw the 1.5m Bell’s whisky account moved out of WCRS and into Court Burkitt (MW May 14).

What a surprise that Heinz has moved serious budgets out of direct marketing. Forget all of the issues regarding big advertising ideas or conflicts between Dorlands or WWAV, even though they may be true. The real reason is that direct mail techniques are not appropriate when a consumer may be loyal to their brand of […]
