Imperial’s Lambert & Butler is understood to have overtaken Gallaher’s Benson & Hedges as the most popular cigarette brand in the UK, a position B&H has held for more than 20 years.

For three consecutive months L&B has outsold B&H, according to the latest ACNielsen-MEAL figures, with the lion’s share of sales for both brands in King Size and a smaller fraction of the share from variants such as Lights.

The figures for June show that L&B’s King Size brand has for the first time overtaken Gallaher’s B&H King Size for volume sales.

L&B King Size is believed to have increased its overall market share from 10.7 per cent in April, to 11 per cent in May and 11.1 per cent in June. B&H King Size’s market share has slipped from 11.2 per cent in April to 11 per cent for May and 10.8 per cent in June.
