Selfridges delivers dinner up North

Selfridges will test a service offering tailor-made themed dinner parties from a team of personal food shoppers when it opens in Manchester on September 10.

Customers will phone with details of the theme of their party, the number of guests and any dietary requirements 48 hours before the event. Personal shoppers will choose and pack all the food and wine required.

An inside source says: “Customers will choose a theme – Mexican or Spanish, for example – give a budget and the number of guests.”

The service may develop into a home delivery service for customers living in a 20-mile radius if the trial proves successful. In the initial stages, participants will have to collect their ready-made dinner parties from the new Manchester store.

The dinner party service extends the telephone ordering service available from the Traiteur counter in the Food Hall of Selfridges flagship London store. This provides luxury foods, including canapés and paté, for collection within 24 hours.

A spokeswoman for Selfridges in London says: “We do not deliver fresh goods, but the Traiteur counter service is very popular.”

Selfridges is investing 20m in the Manchester store – the first to open outside London. It will sell fashion, food, furnishings and cosmetics on a two-floor site in the Trafford Centre in Manchester.
