New chief for Selfridges Manchester
Selfridges has appointed a separate head of marketing for its new Manchester store, which opens on September 10.
Dominic Wilkinson joins Selfridges on August 17 from Barclays Bank where he is a senior campaign executive.
Wilkinson will report to Selfridges marketing director Nick Cross and Selfridges Manchester managing director Kathy McGowan.
Cross says: “We will both have to manage the overall brand but allow for twin flexibility.”
Wilkinson will have responsibility for store card and local advertising, PR and promotions in Manchester and will work in conjunction with Cross and the London marketing team on brand strategy.
The 20m Manchester store is Selfridges’ first outside London and will be the flagship tenant of the out-of-town Trafford Centre. It will sell fashion, food, furnishings and cosmetics and also trial a personal shopper dinner party service (MW July 30).
The move parallels the shift North of rival upmarket London store Harvey Nichols which has a base in Leeds and plans further expansion into Scotland.
Selfridges has appointed Richard Pym as non-executive director. Pym, who spent ten years at the Burton Group within the Multiples divisions and Debenhams, remains as group finance director at Alliance & Leicester.
