Cellnet offers mobile users dictation link

Cellnet is to launch a new service called Dictation Line allowing mobile phone users to dictate messages which can then be translated into e-mail, faxes or memos.

The 60 per cent BT-owned mobile phone operator claims the service is the world’s first automated mobile dictation service. It launches on September 14 following a six month trial.

Subscribers to Cellnet’s digital service dial 1222 and dictate the message which is then transcribed by a speech recognition system, checked by operators and delivered in about two hours.

The service comes at no extra cost but the call price is higher than normal, at 59p per minute.

Dictation Line is targeted at business users and will be promoted in the first instance at point of sale and to existing subscribers. Radio and press advertising is being considered.
