BG Energy Centres hires former WH Smith chief

British Gas Energy Centres has appointed a former WH Smith chief as its new marketing director.

The appointment follows the promotion of Liz Hendersen to parent company Centrica, as head of marketing development.

Nigel Kenyon Jones took up the position this week. He left WH Smith, where he was director of the entertainment business unit, almost two years ago. Since then he has worked as a consultant.

Kenyon Jones became managing director of Our Price Music, also part of WH Smith, in 1990, after working as marketing director of Do It All, then a division of WH Smith. In his new post he will report to Energy Centres managing director Bill Megrath.

Megrath says: “Nigel’s valuable marketing experience in the retail sector will be a great asset in positioning Energy Centres as the shop window for the group.”

Kenyon Jones will preside over the marketing of the 240-strong chain, which sells gas, electrical appliances and kitchen accessories.

Energy Centres is part of Centrica, which runs British Gas Trading. The company recently signed a deal with Homebase, to bring Energy Centre shops-within-shops to the DIY chain.
