The sweet smell of ozone excess

Marketing Week was recently contacted by one of its more eagle-eyed readers – a brand manager who enjoys reading the small print on packaging.

Despite his doubtless frantic schedule, our reader has found the time to notice that on the label for his new non-elastic, ozone-friendly socks there is an anomaly.

The label claims that each sock “helps prevent foot odour, which is probably a major cause of the ozone layer” – as our reader writes: “It’s a wonderful anti-marketing ploy.”

The diary had understood that ozone was a Good Thing, but there you are.

He continues: “I remember, from my school days, Piggy Bradford had smelly feet. None of us realised what a boon he was to our environment!”
