Sun plans glossy TV listings mag

The Sun is about to dump its pocket-sized TV listings guide in favour of a glossy weekly magazine timed for the onset of digital television.

Since 1991 the Sun has produced a Saturday weekly listings guide, called The Sun TV Superguide, but according to insiders this is about to be replaced with a new A3 sized- magazine launching in October.

News International, owner of The Sun, holds 40 per cent of Sky Digital, which plans to launch 200 television and audio channels on October 1. Since the launch of Sky television The Sun has been criticised for the cross-promotion of its sister company in Rupert Murdoch’s empire.

A spokeswoman for The Sun’s corporate affairs department refuses to comment.

The Mirror produces an A3-sized Saturday TV magazine, called The Look, containing longer features on a wider variety of subjects including fashion, cookery and human interest stories. It is edited by Peter Willis, who was poached from The Sun.
