BT team gets down to e-business

BT has set up a new team within its UK products and solutions division to deal exclusively with e-business.

Former general manager of BT mobility solutions Eric Guilloteau is general manager of e-business. Internet marketing manager Neil Mellor is head of e-commerce marketing.

The 100-strong e-business team has been established as part of the BT reorganisation announced in August by managing director Bill Cockburn.

Mellor will unveil the e-commerce strategy today (Wednesday). BT aims to offer suppliers which operate in an e-business environment packages to suit their needs.

“Businesses don’t want separate products, they want package solutions. We will focus on the e-business proposition,” says Mellor.

Advertising for e-business will include TV, press and the Internet. The recent “caveman” TV and press ads created by Abbott Mead Vickers. BBDO may be dropped in favour of a new concept, according to Mellor.

BT has also launched Trustwise OnSite. The service offers bundles of security certificates to companies trading on the Internet at 4,000 for 1,000 certificates. Companies then distribute certificates to their customers or use them for internal transactions.

BT hopes trust in its brand will make the company a preferred supplier of Internet security auth-orisation.
