Lottery board shortlists agencies

The National Lottery Charities Board is shortlisting agencies to promote the “Awards for All” scheme which is to be launched across the UK next spring.

The Board, which awards National Lottery funds to charities, has visited a number of agencies, and says it will start briefing a selection of them in the next few weeks.

The Awards for All scheme has been tested in Scotland, and is to be tested further in the East Midlands before a national launch next spring. The scheme offers a one-stop-shop service for small organisations seeking to apply for grants of between 500 and 5,000 from the NLCB, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Arts Council and the Sports Council.

A spokesman for NLCB says: “Awards for All makes the application process simpler for small groups at grass roots level. The groups are, for example, for younger and older people, scout groups and shop mobility schemes.”

He refuses to comment on how much the account will be worth, but says it will be a long-term campaign. It has been estimated that the account will be worth a few hundred thousand pounds to begin with, but could grow to 2m – 5m over time.
