EMAP Construct and Media plan series of redundancies

EMAP is about to make a number of redundancies as part of a restructuring exercise.

There are 17 potential redundancies to be made at EMAP Construct, which publishes Construction News, with five more possible at EMAP Media, which publishes Broadcast.

Both EMAP Construct and EMAP Media are part of EMAP Business Communications division. Its chief executive Derek Carter says he hopes the staff affected can be redeployed.

In a statement, EMAP says that the restructuring of EMAP Construct has been undertaken “to ensure the business emerges from the next downturn stronger… than it is now”.

EMAP Media is also reviewing the frequency of TV World and is merging Production Europe with Production Solutions.

EMAP interim results published on Monday talked about “advertising revenues becoming more difficult to come by” for EMAP Business Communications.

For the six months to the end of September, the group reported a 16 per cent rise in pre-tax profits on revenues up nine per cent to 410m. But underlying profits at EMAP Business Communications were just 11 per cent ahead.
