Beattie to present end-of-year review show on Channel 4

TBWA GGT Simons Palmer creative director Trevor Beattie is to present his own TV show reviewing news highlights of the year. At the end of the show, he will condense the stories into a 30-second advertisement.

The half hour show has been commissioned by Channel 4 and is called The Year In 30 Seconds. It will air on December 29 in a mid-evening slot.

In the programme, Beattie will give his views on cultural and political events that happened during the year, such as Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, the Irish peace talks, and the death of Frank Sinatra.

At the end of the show, the ad man will condense it all into a 30-second ad.

Sources say that if the show is well received, a weekly series of six more could be commissioned in the New Year. Channel 4 executives thought they could work more closely with Beattie, who was already appearing as one of a team of presenters on the weekly topical events show Zeitgeist, which began in May this year. Beattie is also a columnist for the Guardian.

Beattie achieved notoriety when he created the famous Wonderbra poster campaign at the beginning of the Nineties.
