Excitement for BT/Yell’s future

Your article headlined “BT/Excite’s deal with a difference” (MW December 3) characterised an Excite spokesman as suggesting that the future of BT’s Yell directory site is unclear. Clearly, Excite is in no position to have any special knowledge concerning the future of Yell or any business other than its own. Yell is an independent entity with a separate management reporting to BT; only BT is in any position to know and determine Yell’s future. As far as we can tell, Yell seems to be doing just fine.

The article further suggested that Excite intends to continue favouring Scoot over Yell as its business directory partner of choice. At time of writing, Excite does indeed feature Scoot, as we have for quite some time. However, as part of the normal course of managing its business, Excite has been evaluating this category and will always honour its contractual obligations to partners, but it will never rule out other alternatives in such an absolute and public manner as the article suggests.

Why is it that men called Pullitt are drawn to dentistry, while others named Smellie climb the greasy pole to the highest reaches of the environmental cleansing industry? The self-same mysterious force […]
