6m Express Group goes to St Luke’s

Express Newspapers has appointed St Luke’s to handle the 5.7m advertising accounts for The Express, Express on Sunday and Daily Star.

St Luke’s pitched against Young & Rubicam and RPM3.

Previous incumbent Leo Burnett resigned the accounts after refusing to take part in the review instigated at the end of November by Express Newspapers commercial director Paul Woolfenden (MW Decem ber 3 1998).

When Woolfenden joined the group as marketing director in April, The Express account was moved out of Lowe Howard-Spink and into Burnett without a pitch.

Burnett already handled the Daily Star and Express on Sunday.

Woolfenden comments: “St Luke’s gave us a vision which went beyond pure advertising solutions, and an idea that takes us into the millennium.”
