Barilla, the Italian-based food and pasta manufacturer, has shortlisted Saatchi & Saatchi and Young & Rubicam for its 50m global advertising account. The incumbent was Grey Advertising.

1576 has won the 3m account for Paulig, which makes Lyons coffee. The agency has also appointed Kevin Collins, former group marketing manager of Hall and Woodhouse, as marketing controller.

Cordiant Communications Group (CCG) has issued a stock exchange denial of a press report claiming it is the target of a takeover bid. The story suggested True North Communications would bid more than 350m for CCG.

BT has drawn up a shortlist of agencies for its creative account. It is expected to divide the work between a roster of agencies across categories including consumer, business and youth. Incumbent Abbott Mead Vickers, M&C Saatchi, Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe, Partners BDDH and HHCL & Partners are believed to be on the shortlist.

London Underground has put out a tender for advertising services, including press, radio and television work, through the Official Journal of the European Community.

Liberty, the London department store, has shortlisted J Walter Thompson and TBWA for its 700,000 creative advertising account.

Bartle Bogle Hegarty has reportedly bought a small stake in the Swedish marketing company Ruud & Rye, which is about to launch a range of razors in Scandinavia.

Bates Dorland has created a 1m national press and poster campaign for Roche brand Redoxon Double Action.

Fleming Arthur has been appointed to ACC Telecom’s 800,000 account.

Design Bridge has produced a new brand identity and pack design for Wisdom toothbrushes, which is being relaunched with an extended range of products.

HPS Marketing Communications has been reappointed to Saab’s 13.5m account for dealer marketing support after a pitch involving McCann-Erickson, Cogent Broadway and Market Penetration Services.

Foote Cone & Belding has acquired the US direct response agency CM Partners.

The Advertising Association has announced that William Hague, leader of the Conservative Party, is to address its annual luncheon at the London Savoy on May 17.
